if you have a really small motherboard you're mining ethereum and all of your pcie slots are used up but you just got your hands on a new gpu well you don't have to buy a new motherboard at least not yet my name is nicholas johnson and this is the space warehouse this is an m.2 to 4x pcie riser and it's only seven dollars on amazon link in the bottom of the description below so it turns out for mining cryptocurrency all the really hard work is happening inside the graphics card's memory itself there really isn't all that much high speed data transfer going back and forth between the motherboard and the cards that means that you can plug in multiple gpus to the same motherboard any motherboard you don't need one of those mining specific motherboards and they don't have to be in the 16x slot and even once you've used up all of your pcie slots this little golden goose will give you one more this is a very small form factor gigabyte b450m motherboard i bought on amazon for 60 bucks this motherboard only has three pcie slots on it one 16x one 4x and one 1x however these are four rtx 3080s all plugged into this same little motherboard and each one able to hash at 95 megahash per second thanks to this little m.2 to pcie 4x adapter thing installation is really easy this board comes with a screw already in the right spot so just take that screw out plug this little guy into the m.2 slot and then use that same screw to hold it down that's pretty much it you do have to make sure you power it i already have a cable coming off it came included with this little adapter that goes to a molex this does force you to use sata for your ssd drive but that's plenty fast for its limited use in a mining rig then we'll just plug in this little 1x to 16x riser and the usb that's going to the card itself that's it that's the whole installation if you're using windows and the card doesn't show up or doesn't report its temperature or just doesn't work like you know it should for the most part just reinstalling the graphics drivers will fix all those problems now powering four different rtx 3080s in one spot is not as straightforward unless you've thought ahead and bought like a 1200 watt power supply i had not done that so the trick is to use two separate psus and then fool one of them into providing power with one of these little tester things or just google which two pins it's shorting out you can just use a wire that and just don't put too much else on this same plug otherwise you're gonna blow the breaker in your wall that's it m.2 for an extra gpu goodbye
